Blinded Calgarian taking part in new clinical trial

It's a device that could eventually help blind people to see again and a Calgary man blinded by a stray bullet in 2008 is going to try it out.

Jose Neto is headed to Pittsburgh for a clinical trial involving the BrainPort device.

It's essentially a video camera mounted on to a pair of sunglasses, and hooked up to a cord.

That cord transmits electrical impulses across the tongue, forming an image withing the wearer's brain.

Jose Neto says he's taking part to help all blind people become more independent.

"Maybe in ten years from now, I'll be wearing it and telling people that I helped develop it," he says.

Neto and his wife Roberta head to Pittsburgh at the end of the month.
