The Drug Controller General of India has ordered two doctors involved in the controversial drug trials to refrain from doing any clinical trials.

Dr Anil Bharani and Dr Ashish Patel had conducted the controversial trials at the government-run M Y hospital here.

According to official information, the DGCI conducted an inquiry after it took notice of media reports on the issue.

The DGCI report found that the two doctors had tested a medicine on some patients since 2005 without permission from the DGCI.

All this came to light when the matter was raised in Rajya Sabha by MP Mahendra Mohan, who wanted to know what the government had done about drug trials conducted at various places.
